'Baba O'Riley' by The Who
|
'Baba O'Riley' by The WhoOut here in the fields, I fight for my meals I get my back into my livin' I don't need to fight to prove I'm right I don't need to be forgiven Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah Don't cry, don't raise your eye It's only teenage wasteland...yeah... Sally take my hand, we'll travel south cross land Put out the fire, and don't look past my shoulder The exodus is here, the happy ones are near Let's get together, before we get much older Teenage wasteland It's only teenage wasteland Teenage wasteland Oh, yeah Teenage wasteland They're all wasted!
Overall, I would say this song is in my top ten songs of all time. Its simply incredible. But before I get to the song itself I need to state that I'm actually posting this song the same night as my 2/1/06 post as I didn't have a chance to post last night as the phone line at the hotel we're living in has been tied up because there are only two lines to both buildings and others also have computers so... yeah. But presently, I'm posting on Shannon's dad's laptop 'cause he's got a wireless card and there are a fair amount of hotspots on Ocean Blvd. and the like. Given, the signal is shit here in this old ass concrete building, but its OK if you're in the right place in the room. We're hoping to get a wireless card for Shannon's desktop ASAP, too. Maybe then we'll have more regular web access. Anywho, this song is pretty much about being a teenager in a shit sort of point in your life. But as a teen, who doesn't think life is shit? Anywho, if you've never heard the song, find a way to do so. Its great. And read the lyrics. They're great. -=The Prynce

I'm sure some of you are wondering why I would be posting a song by Metallica and the answer is simple... They used to be a great band. But I'm not getting into all of that right now. The formatting on this song is kind of bad but the lyrics appear to be all there. Its about injustice as it is in the world today (namely in the US). I sort of see different sorts of injustice each day as I'm sure many of you do. Money corrupts, folks. Perhaps its cynical, but its true. -=The Prynce

'Even Flow' by Pearl Jam
|
'Even FLow' by Pearl JamFreezin', rests his head on a pillow made of concrete, again Oh, feelin' maybe he'll see a little better set of days, ooh yeah Oh, hand out, faces that he sees time again ain't that familiar, ooh yeah Oh, dark grin, he can't help, when he's happy looks insane, oh yeah Even flow, thoughts arrive like butterflies Oh, he don't know, so he chases them away, yeah...ooh... Oh, someday yet, he'll begin his life again...life again...life again... Kneelin', looking through the paper though he doesn't know to read, ooh yeah Oh, prayin', now to something that has never showed him anything Oh, feelin', understands the weather of the winters on it's way Oh, ceilings, few and far between all the legal halls of shame, yeah... Even flow, thoughts arrive like butterflies Oh, he don't know, so he chases them away, yeah... Someday yet, he'll begin his life again Oh, whispering hands, gently lead, lead him away...him away, him away... Yeah! woo...ah yeah...fuck it up... Even flow, thoughts arrive like butterflies Oh, he don't know, so he chases them away... Ooh, someday yet, he'll begin his life again, yeah Oh, whispering hands, gently lead, lead him away...him away...him away... Yeah! woo...uh huh...yeah, yeah, mommy, mommy...
This song is about a homeless person that society has pretty much just pushed to the side. I have nothing really that makes me post this... Only that it is a universally pertainate song and I'm short on time tonight so... yeah. Anywho, read the lyrics. They're really good and its a great band so read it and think about it, k? Sorry that I couldn't post more but look for something better tomorrow (not that this isn't a great song, but it has nothing to do with my life at this point, ya know?). -=The Prynce

'Du Hast / You Have' by RammsteinDu Youdu hast (haÃt)* you have (hate)du hast mich you have me (4 x) du hast mich gefragt you have asked medu hast mich gefragt you have asked medu hast mich gefragt, you have asked me,und ich hab nichts gesagt and I have said nothingWillst du bis der Tod euch scheidet Do you want, until death do you part, treu ihr sein für alle Tage to be faithful to her for all of your daysNein, nein No, noWillst du bis der Tod euch scheidet Do you want, until death do you part, treu ihr sein für alle Tage to be faithful to her for all of your daysNein, nein No, noWillst du bis zum Tod der Scheide, Do you want until the death of the vagina, sie lieben auch in schlechten Tagen to love her, even in bad timesNein, nein No, no*Note: This is a play on two German verbs: du hast (you have) and du haÃt (you hate), spelled differently but pronounced the same way. Also, depending on your font settings on your broswer, some of the characters in the German version may not show up as they should.
The English translation of these lyrics are italicized, by the way. Anywho, I'm not saying this is how I feel about anyone or anything, only that I find it to be a very interesting song. The song is about marriage and is apparently poking at the German wedding vows and instead of saying 'Ja' he says 'nein' so... yeah. Ya know? But as I said, it is an interesting song. It has been in my head on and off for like a month now so I'm posting it today yet again to get it out of my head, lol. What do you all think of the song, though? -=The Prynce

'Signs' by Five Man Electrical Band
|
'Signs' by Five Man Electrical BandAnd the sign said "Long-haired freaky people need not apply" So I tucked my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him why He said "You look like a fine upstanding young man, I think you'll do" So I took off my hat, I said "Imagine that. Huh! Me workin' for you!" Whoa-oh-oh Sign, sign, everywhere a sign Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign? And the sign said anybody caught trespassin' would be shot on sight So I jumped on the fence and-a yelled at the house, "Hey! What gives you the right?" "To put up a fence to keep me out or to keep mother nature in" "If God was here he'd tell you to your face, Man, you're some kinda sinner" Sign, sign, everywhere a sign Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign? Now, hey you, mister, can't you read? You've got to have a shirt and tie to get a seat You can't even watch, no you can't eat You ain't supposed to be here The sign said you got to have a membership card to get inside Ugh! [Lead Guitar] And the sign said, "Everybody welcome. Come in, kneel down and pray" But when they passed around the plate at the end of it all, I didn't have a penny to pay So I got me a pen and a paper and I made up my own little sign I said, "Thank you, Lord, for thinkin' 'bout me. I'm alive and doin' fine." Wooo! Sign, sign, everywhere a sign Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign? Sign, sign, everywhere a sign Sign Sign, sign
I absolutely love this song and shockingly enough, I also like the remake by the band Tesla. I think the song pretty much speaks for itself so... Read it and let it speak! lol. I posted this song tonight, though, because I went job searching today and though I saw no signs saying "Long haired freaky people need not apply", I felt as though they were all around me. I went to the company that essentially runs Myrtle Beach to apply for anything they had open that grabbed my interest and before I could even look at the list the women told me that I could not work for Burroughs and Chapin in any capacity unless I cut my hair with the exception of a few maintenance jobs. So I looked at those jobs to see what they entailed and it was largely cleaning 'solid waste' AKA shit up. So I didn't apply for any of them. I'm not going to cut my hair just for some shit low-paying job at an amusement park or hotel. Pulling it back into a pintail is one thing and I'd be glad to do that (though I find it uncomfortable at times) for a job but I'm not cutting it for one. And Shannon's dad Grady got turned down for a job today by the same company because he has a small tattoo on his forearm (and on top of that, its hardly noticeable as it sort of blends into the color of his skin from how long he's had it). So I shan't be working for that company and I'm nearly thinking about boycotting it. But as some of you may know, Burroughs and Chapin is like Big Brother in this town... Always watching... All-in-all, this song is great. Even the verses I didn't touch on in this post. -=The Prynce

'Mack the Knife' by Bobby Darin
|
'Mack the Knife' by Bobby DarinOh, the shark, babe, has such teeth, dear And it shows them pearly white Just a jackknife has old MacHeath, babe And he keeps it, ah, out of sight Ya know when that shark bites with his teeth, babe Scarlet billows start to spread Fancy gloves, oh, wears old MacHeath, babe So there's never, never a trace of red Now on the sidewalk, huh, huh, whoo sunny morning, un huh Lies a body just oozin' life, eek And someone's sneakin' 'round the corner Could that someone be Mack the Knife? There's a tugboat, huh, huh, down by the river dontcha know Where a cement bag's just a'drooppin' on down Oh, that cement is just, it's there for the weight, dear Five'll get ya ten old Macky's back in town Now d'ja hear 'bout Louie Miller? He disappeared, babe After drawin' out all his hard-earned cash And now MacHeath spends just like a sailor Could it be our boy's done somethin' rash? Now Jenny Diver, ho, ho, yeah, Sukey Tawdry Ooh, Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown Oh, the line forms on the right, babe Now that Macky's back in town I said Jenny Diver, whoa, Sukey Tawdry Look out to Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown Yes, that line forms on the right, babe Now that Macky's back in town Look out, old Macky's back!!
This song was written about a character from a German play and although it sounds upbeat, it clearly is a song about murder. But that's got nothing to do with what I decided to post it tonight. The real reason is simply that it was stuck in my head for about 4-5 days straight and I'm hoping posting it can purge my mind a bit. Its a damned catchy song, though. Ya'll really should listen to it so you can be tortured with it in your mind for like a week. That's my own sort of punishment to all of you for not posting more comments. Asses. -=The Prynce

'Girl Watcher' by The O'Kaysions
|
'Girl Watcher' by The O'Kaysions[Chorus:] I'm a girl watcher, I'm a girl watcher... Watchin' girls go by, hey, my my I'm a girl watcher, I'm a girl watcher... Here comes one now I was just a boy when I threw away my toys And found a new pastime to dwell on Whenever I detects them there of the other sex I play the game I do so well on [Chorus] Mumble something tell my my, but you do look swell Could you please walk a little slower Wonder if you know that you're putting on a show Could you please walk a little closer
Again, another beach music song but that's not the biggest reason for my posting it, really. The real reason is because it is one of my favorite pastimes, lol. And it is pretty easy to do down here even this time of year when there are so few people down here (few in relation to the 'season'). Its a really 'fun' sort of song, though. Its very upbeat and just... I dunno... Good. :-P Anywho, maybe I'll post something less beach music-like in the near future. Things are still a bit confusing around here to think too hard about what I'm posting and feeling and thinking and things. -=The Prynce

'Give Me Just A Little More Time' by The Chairmen of the Board
|
'Give Me Just A Little More Time' by The Chairmen of the Board[Chorus:] Give me just a little more time And our love will surely grow Give me just a little more time And our love will surely grow Life's too short to make a mistake Let's think of each other and hesitate Young and impatient we may be There's no need to act foolishly If we part our hearts won't forget it Years from now we'll surely regret it [Chorus] You're young and you're in a hurry You're eager for love but don't you worry We both want the sweetness in life But these things don't come overnight Don't give up cos love's been slow Boy, we're gonna succeed with another blow Give me just a little more time And our love will surely grow Baby please baby Baby please baby Love is that mountain we must climb Let's climb it together your hand in mine We haven't known each other too long But the feeling I have is oh so strong I know we can make it there's no doubt We owe it to ourselves to find it out Just, [Chorus] Give me just a little more time And our love will surely grow Baby, please baby Baby, please baby [Chorus] [Repeat And Fade]
Another great beach music song by an amazing band. They're the only beach music band I've ever seen live and they were GREAT. They were great live. General Johnson and the rest of the guys may be old, but they're truly amazing to see live. No explanation needed on the lyrics, right? -=The Prynce

'Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy' by The Tams
|
'Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy' by The TamsBe young, be foolish, but be happy Be young, be foolish, but be happy Don`t let the rain get you down it`s a waste of time Have your fun, live every day in the bright sunshine It`s the same old story all over the world Girl needs boy and boy needs girl So be young, be foolish, but be happy Be young, be foolish, but be happy Don`t let love slip away Live your life for today Life is too short to worry about unimportant things Reach for the sky and touch a star, and then you`ll find you dream Because dreaming alone is a shame indeed But if you`ve got love, that`s all you`ll need So be young, be foolish, girl be happy Be young, be foolish, girl be happy Be young, be foolish, girl be happy
Yet another beach music song. It's simply about not letting things bother you. Life's too short to spend it only worrying. One of my favorite songs but it needs no real explaining. -=The Prynce

'Under the Boardwalk' by The Drifters
|
'Under the Boardwalk' by The DriftersThe sun beats down and melts the tar up on the roof And your shoes get so hot you wish your tired feet were fire-proof Under the Boardwalk...out of the sun Under the Boardwalk...we'll be having fun Under the Boardwalk...people walking above Under the Boardwalk...we'll be falling in love Under the Boardwalk...boardwalk From the park you hear the happy sounds of the carousel You can almost taste the hotdogs and french fries they sell Under the Boardwalk, down by the sea On a blanket with my baby is where I'll be Under the Boardwalk...out of the sun Under the Boardwalk...we'll be havin' fun Under the Boardwalk...people walking above Under the Boardwalk...we'll be makin' love Under the Boardwalk...boardwalk Under the Boardwalk, down by the sea On a blanket with my baby is where I'll be On a blanket with my baby is where I'll be.....
This post is actually being posted in the early morning of 1/26/2006 as are all others posts from here out until 1/25/2006's post. This song is the perfect beach music song. Some people actually claim it was written in Carolina Beach somewhat near Myrtle Beach where the first boardwalk was made of wooden planks and the water could splash up on your feet from below. But it isn't really a deep song or anything. Very light, in fact. But this was the day I moved to Myrtle Beach so... Yay! Most of my next posts will likely be beach music, BTW. So... deal. lol. -=The Prynce

'Dancin', Shaggin' on the Boulevard' by Alabama
|
'Dancin', Shaggin' on the Boulevard' byWell the Magic Attic's where the music rolls And the Army-Navy's got ol' Jackie Soul Down on Peaches Corner there are Good Ol' Boys And Mother Fletchers makin' lots of noise They're dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard Well the Tams are playin' at the Port-O-Call And the Drifters underneath the Boardwalk At the Spanish Galleon and Ol' Fat Jacks Jukebox playin' and the place is packed You bet they're dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard You know they're dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard Got the top down and the traffic's slow Sun Fun Week and, we all go Where the girls are sunnin' and lookin' good Well I never met 'em but I wish I could And we'd go dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard We'd go dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard Well the Embers singin' up on Ocean Drive And the Castaways are gettin' loud tonight At the Electric Circus they all getin' down And the Carousel's spinnin' round and 'round See them dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard I see 'em dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard Well I'm hangin out down at Sloppy Joes They may doze but they never close And the Bama Boys at the Bowery They can't dance but they play for free But they like dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard They know dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard They wrote dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard Shaggin' on the boulevard Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
Tomorrow is the first (and likely last) day of my move to Myrtle Beach. That is why I've posted this song. It is simply about Myrtle Beach, SC. All of the places in the song are or were Myrtle Beach landmarks (though I know for sure the Spanish Galleon is actually in North Myrtle Beach). A few of them are gone now but a lucky few remain. For those who don't know, Alabama got their start playing at The Bowery in Myrtle Beach (and its still around). Of all of the places in the song, I almost feel required to recommend Peaches Corner to anyone who's ever in town. It's on Ocean Blvd. (hence the name of the title) and its AMAZING! The staff was rude to us once but that's probably not common. And if you're ever at Peaches Corner, you'll be near the 'hub' of the places in this song (mostly). Mother Fletcher's is nearby as is the carousel at the Pavilion. The Magic Attic is now just called The Attic and its a club for young teens. And Sun Fun week is still going on every year, too. Sorry to sound like a commercial but I love that town. If you like beach music (The Drifters, Chairmen of the Board, The Platters, etc.) then you should understand why. I mean, c'mon! South Carolina's official dance is The Shag (and its fitting since Myrtle Beach is the beach music hub of the world). But ok, I'm done plugging the hell out of the city I love. Posts may be a little late in the coming days but I'll do my best. -=The Prynce

'San Quentin' by Johnny Cash
|
'San Quentin' by Johnny CashSan Quentin, you've been livin' hell to me You've hosted me since nineteen sixty three I've seen 'em come and go and I've seen them die And long ago I stopped askin' why San Quentin, I hate every inch of you. You've cut me and have scarred me thru an' thru. And I'll walk out a wiser weaker man; Mister Congressman why can't you understand. San Quentin, what good do you think you do? Do you think I'll be different when you're through? You bent my heart and mind and you may my soul, And your stone walls turn my blood a little cold. San Quentin, may you rot and burn in hell. May your walls fall and may I live to tell. May all the world forget you ever stood. And may all the world regret you did no good. San Quentin, you've been livin' hell to me.
As those of you close to me may know, I'll be moving out of my hometown of 21 years in the next few days. My hometown is much like San Quentin to me. Few people who find themselves here will ever be fortunate enough to leave. Its strange, though. As much as I dislike or disagree with so many people and views here (99% of 'em, I'd say) there's something here that I like. I like the history. My family's roots are in this county since only like two generations after my people came to this country (I'm speaking of the side I've researched most). I live on the land that my ancestors that I've never met in my life lived and worked. Everything has some sort of story to it even if you don't know it. Deep down, the people aren't bad. Many of them are just ignorant and often bigotted. Apart from those, most are just incredibly phony be their skater cunt posers or wiggers. I know and love this area. I was raised here where I spent almost every free moment with the sun up outside exploring for miles in the woods and back roads near my house. I've had incredible experiences here. But I'm not accepted in this town. I was once turned down for a job as a simple cook here because I "looked too scary". I was voted 'most original' my senior year which in my mind was the most polite way they could call me a laregly unwelcome and different freak and not arouse too much suspicion. There are no jobs. And the few that do exist are impossible for someone like me to get having no car and living in a 'severly rual' area. So replace 'San Quentin' in those lyrics with "Dillon County". Only it isn't true. I don't really HATE every inch of this county and I don't wish its demise. I just want to know that I have the power to break free of it. All of that being said, I'll likely be back here in my future (apart from like weekly visits). I only hope I'll be returning to purchase or build one of multiple houses that I hope to own... And that I'll hav a private single-engined airplane to get far away from here as fast as possible if I choose to. Hope this post wasn't too 'gooey' and I hope it made a lot of sense to you all. -=The Prynce

'Lola' by The Kinks
|
'Lola' by The KinksI met her in a club down in old Soho, where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry cola. C-o-l-a cola. She walked up to me and she asked me to dance. I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said, Lola L-o-l-a Lola. Well I'm not the world's most physical guy but when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine. Oh my Lola, L-o-l-a Lola. Well I'm not dumb but I can't understand why she walked like a woman and talked like a man. Oh my Lola, L-o-l-a Lola. Well we drank champagne and danced all night under electric candlelight. She picked me up and sat me on her knees and said: Dear boy won't you come home with me? Well I'm not the world's most passionate guy But when I looked in her eyes well I almost fell for my Lola. Lola, Lo-lo-lo-lo-Lola Lola, Lo-lo-lo-lo-Lola I pushed her away. I walked to the door. I fell to the floor. I got down on my knees. Then I looked at her and she at me. Well that's the way that I want it to stay. And I always want it to be that way for my Lola. Lo-lo-lo-lo-Lola Girls will be boys and boys will be girls. It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world. (except for Lola) Lo-lo-lo-lo-Lola Well I left home just a week before. And I'd never ever kissed a woman before. But Lola smiled and took me by the hand. And said: "Dear boy I'm gonna make you a man." Well I'm not the world's most masculine man. But I know what I am, in the bed, I'm a man and so's Lola. Lo-lo-lo-lo-Lola Lo-lo-lo-lo-Lola...
This song is about mistakenly being with a transvestite. Its based on a true story dealing with the manager of The Kinks dancing all night with a transvestite and being too drunk to notice even when his/her stubble started to show. But the meaning of the song has nothing to do with why I'm posting it. This song is possibly the most catchy song ever created and its been stuck in my head all day and then some. Don't believe me? Well download this song somewhere and listen to it and I bet you'll probably be spelling aloud the name "Lola" throughout the day. L,O,L,A; Lola. Lo,Lo,Lo,Lo,Lola... Maybe it'll get dislodged from my brain now. And as an interesting side-note, hardcore legend and best-selling writer Mick Foley wrote a parody of this song when he was younger about a 'boner'... B-O-N-E-R, Boner. Go read his first book... It's got the lyrics there. It's a riot. Stay tuned. -=The Prynce

'Just Like A Woman' by Bob Dylan
|
'Just Like A Woman' by Bob DylanNobody feels any pain Tonight as I stand inside the rain Ev'rybody knows That baby's got new clothes But lately I see her ribbons and her bows Have fallen from her curls She takes just like a woman, yes, she does She makes love just like a woman, yes, she does And she aches just like a woman But she breaks just like a little girl Queen Mary, she's my friend Yes, I believe I'll go see her again Nobody has to guess That baby can't be blessed Till she finally sees that she's like all the rest With her fog, her amphetamine and her pearls She takes just like a woman, yes, she does She makes love just like a woman, yes, she does And she aches just like a woman But she breaks just like a little girl It was raining from the first And I was dying there of thirst So I came in here And your long-time curse hurts But what's worse Is this pain in here I can't stay in here Ain't it clear that I just can't fit Yes, I believe it's time for us to quit When we meet again Introduced as friends Please don't let on that you knew me when I was hungry and it was your world Ah, you fake just like a woman, yes, you do You make love just like a woman, yes, you do Then you ache just like a woman But you break just like a little girl
Personally, I think this song may be a little too deep for me to try to explain. It is an AMAZING song, though. PLEASE read these lyrics and give me YOUR interpretation of them. To give a very brief summary, I think it is about facades among other things. Look for more Bob Dylan lyrics soon. He's an incredible poet and singer and I'm a great fan of his and find myself thinking of his songs in comparison to things in my life or mind at the time. -=The Prynce

'The Great Beyond' by R.E.M.
|
'The Great Beyond' by R.E.M.I've watched the stars fall silent from your eyes All the sights that I have seen I can't believe that I believed I wished That you could see There's a new planet in the solar system There is nothing up my sleeve I'm pushing an elephant up the stairs I'm tossing up punchlines that were never there Over my shoulder a piano falls Crashing to the ground And all this talk of time Talk is fine And I don't want to stay around Why can't we pantomime, just close our eyes And sleep sweet dreams Me and you with wings on our feet I'm pushing an elephant up the stairs I'm tossing up punchlines that were never there Over my shoulder a piano falls Crashing to the ground I'm breaking through I'm bending spoons I'm keeping flowers in full bloom I'm looking for answers from the great beyond I want the hummingbirds, the dancing bears Sweetest dreams of you Look into the stars Look into the moon I'm pushing an elephant up the stairs I'm tossing up punchlines that were never there Over my shoulder a piano falls Crashing to the ground I'm breaking through I'm bending spoons I'm keeping flowers in full bloom I'm looking for answers from the great beyond I'm breaking through I'm bending spoons I'm keeping flowers in full bloom I'm looking for answers from the great (repeat following two verses 3 x each) I'm breaking through I'm bending spoons I'm keeping flowers in full bloom I'm looking for answers from the great beyond I'm breaking through I'm bending spoons I'm keeping flowers in full bloom I'm looking for answers from the great
This song is about Andy Kaufman. Today was his birthday (and oddly enough, also Jim Carrey's) so I'm posting this song to his legacy (I won't post it to his memory though in case he's still alive). Apart from that, I think this song has a bit of a sweet feel to it. Kaufman always had a very sweet and child-like side to his sense of humor and I think this song captures it in a way. I'd also like to wish a happy birthday to The Greatest, Muhammed Ali (formerly know as Cassius Clay before his first title win) who is now 64. This man tops my list of people I want to meet before one of us dies. And when I call him The Greatest, I don't mean it only because it was his nickname for himself. I call him that because that's what he always has been. In the ring and out. -=The Prynce

'Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)' by John LennonClose your eyes Have no fear The monster's gone He's on the run and your daddy's here Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Beautiful boy Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Beautiful boy Before you go to sleep Say a little prayer Every day in every way It's getting better and better Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Beautiful boy Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Beautiful boy Out on the ocean sailing away I can hardly wait To see you come of age But I guess we'll both just have to be patient 'Cause it's a long way to go A hard row to hoe Yes it's a long way to go But in the meantime Before you cross the street Take my hand Life is what happens to you While you're busy making other plans Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Beautiful boy Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Beautiful boy Before you go to sleep Say a little prayer Every day in every way It's getting better and better Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Beautiful boy Darling, darling, darling Darling Sean
This song was written about John Lennon's second son, Sean. This song needs no explanation from me, though. If you're a dad you'll certainly understand and if you aren't, you probably still will. All of that being said, I posted this song tonight in honor of my 'beautiful, darling boy', Rian (for those who don't know, he's around 14 months old now). Daddy loves you, Rian. -=The Prynce

'Kiss' by Prince
|
'Kiss' by PrinceYou don't have to be beautiful To turn me on I just need your body baby From dusk till dawn You don't need experience To turn me out You just leave it all up to me I'm gonna show you what it's all about You don't have to be rich To be my girl You don't have to be cool To rule my world Ain't no particular sign I'm more compatible with I just want your extra time and your Kiss You got to not talk dirty, baby If you wanna impress me You can't be too flirty, mama I know how to undress me (Yeah) I want to be your fantasy Maybe you could be mine You just leave it all up to me We could have a good time You don't have to be rich To be my girl You don't have to be cool To rule my world Ain't no particular sign I'm more compatible with I just want your extra time and your Kiss Yes I think I wanna dance Gotta, Gotta Little girl Wendy's parade Gotta, gotta, gotta Women not girls rule my world I said they rule my world Act your age, mama (Not your shoe size) Not your shoe size Maybe we could do the twirl You don't have to watch Dynasty To have an attitude You just leave it all up to me My love will be your food Yeah You don't have to be rich To be my girl You don't have to be cool To rule my world Ain't no particular sign I'm more compatible with I just want your extra time and your Kiss
If you need anyone to explain what this song is about then you're not old enough for this blog. Prince was never known for his subtle nature. While I'm afraid this may perpetuate the rumors and theories that my alias came from Prince of 'the artist', it isn't the case. My name has no connection to him. Although I actually am a fan of him and his style. This song itself has no real meaning as far as my mood or experiences today goes, though. I simply love the song and it puts me in a rather fun and happy mood and I'm definitely happy tonight! The Steelers won and of course, The Panthers beat the Bears! The Steelers game was tough for me because The Colts only rank 1 below them in my favorite teams. But The Panthers are #1 for me and they got revenge so... I'm pleased. Also, I saw TNA Final Resolution and it was pretty good, too. Given, there was a lot of talk between Shannon, Grady, and even myself at times which made it hard to focus on the matches. Also, Rian was being a baby as always so he was a slight distraction, too. From what I saw and could pay attention to, it was pretty good. The Raven match was a bit disappointing but not because of the outcome (as I'm sure it won't stick) but because the mystery opponent was only Sean Waltman (AKA: X-Pac, 1-2-3 Kid, Syxx, etc.) who has only been out of TNA for a short time and he's not much of a hard worker anymore. Raven carried the match, though. So it wasn't all bad. I was hoping for another old ECW guy like maybe Tommy Dreamer but my hopes were dashed. But enough of that for now, simply put, I'm in a pretty happy mood and this song also puts me in a happy mood so... There it is. Maybe something more meaningful tomorrow. -=The Prynce

'Peace Not Greed' by Kottonmouth Kings
|
'Peace Not Greed' by Kottonmouth KingsGood Evening, this is Los Angeles Lonely teenage daydream Of things I just might be A surreal kind of thinking Keeps on drifting in on me My twisted body is lifeless Not so their twisted minds Peace through power their motto Power for peace their crime Product of our environment Maybe one day they will legalize weed In the year 2G the planet could be deceased We plead to the fleas while we're beggin' on our knees In our hometown Cali with bears and green trees Birds and the bees, hot sand on the beach Shells in the sea and I'm living in peace Like a dog on a leash locked up with no keys I gotta smoke undercover, motherfuck the police! Yeah, see the magician pull the rabbit from the hat The laws an illusion it's simple as that Putting us in jail fronting us without a tax I can see the wires in the levitating act I can hear the lies and they're calling them facts I can see the bars and they're lookin all cracked I read between the lines but the lines are all crap I can feel the knife turning in my back How would life be if the world smoked weed Guaranteed there'd be peace not greed See, it's hell, living in a cell Legalize the plant only time will tell You are a sacred being of light Projected into reality for a purpose Demand the right to your moment In this holographic gift with no rules, and no borders Except for those who you choose to accept and live by Abolish government means nothing to me Forget about god, he's not here to see We live by a system, a perfect mold People perfect people who are poor and old Lies were spent on a ladder of the sad They said we're lookin for a method in this world Presidents are named, Presidents are labeled Highest man on the government table America, land of the free Free to the power of the people in uniform How would life be if the world smoked weed Guaranteed there'd be peace not greed See, it's hell, living in a cell Legalize the plant only time will tell Society, fuck it, I've had enough This system's full of crooks, straight up corrupt You look like a decoy bobbin' like a duck And your money says you're smokin on a BC Bluff You're caught up in the headlights of my V-Dub bus TSOL and the Kings about to even things up Your birds will take all the air out the sky Bring you down to our level You can run, can't hide Product of our environment A lonely teenage daydream Of things I just might be A surreal kind of thinking Keeps on drifting in on me My twisted body is lifeless Not so their twisted minds Peace through power their motto Power through peace their crime The government keeps all control over the population While the schools teach the kids restricted education Murder, Rape, Sex, Underage prostitution They got the war on pot, they got the wrong solution I wake and I bake, nowhere to escape Livin' life in a tank they invade my space Betrayed full of hate while they're shootin' all blanks Society's lost in a paranoid state It's the illusion of ownership, It's take what you can get The banks are the loan sharks And everyone's in debt And if you get ahead how quickly you forget You're hanging from a burning rope Without a safety net They tax you when you sell They tax you when you buy They take half when you live Then they take half when you die These are the lies that they are stating as facts I can see the wires of the levitating act How would life be if the world smoked weed Guaranteed there'd be peace not greed See, it's hell, living in a cell Legalize the plant only time will tell I'm glad that I can read I'm glad that I can write I read their fuckin' bullshit every single night When off in my head went a little fuckin light It told me what was wrong it told me what was right World bank Power and control Issuing the money and they're dollin' out the roles Charging what they want to with the money they control Living in their nightmare Giving them your soul!
First off, let me say that I'm sorry if the format of the lyrics is a bit off. Its the only correct version I could find and it was horribly formatted. I think its pretty simple to see what this song is about. Its about how the world would be if everyone smoked weed (which is a step or two abobe legalizing it, lol). I don't think it would be a perfect world if everyone smoked weed, but I do think it would be much better. I used to smoke marijuana regularly. I honestly believe that I still would today if not for its being illegal and my having a son to be there for. I don't advocate the use of illegal substances but I DO advocate thinking for yourself. At any rate, the song talks a lot about corruption in the government and corperate world etc. I have to agree with almost everything that this song has to say. Any time I'm in a very angry mood (anger directed at society, government, etc.) then this song is almost perfect to represent me. And even when I'm calm and mellow, I still believe in these things. But I'm going to cut short the rest of the explanation in hopes that some of you will actually read the lyrics and think about when they say. And while you're at it, buy this CD or download the song! You won't regret it! -=The Prynce

'Touch of Grey' by The Grateful Dead
|
'Touch of Grey' by The Grateful DeadIt must be getting early Clocks are running late Paint by numbers morning sky Looks so phony Dawn is breaking everywhere Light a candle, curse the glare Draw the curtains, I don't care 'Cause it's alright I will get by I will get by I will get by I will survive I see you got your list out Say your piece and get out Yes I got the gist of it But it's alright Sorry that you feel that way The only thing there is to say Every silver lining's got a Touch of grey It's a lesson to me The Ables and the Bakers and the C's The A B C's We all must face And try to keep a little grace I know the rent is in arrears The dog has not been fed in years It's even worse than it appears But it's alright Cows are giving kerosene The kid can't read at seventeen The words he knows are all obscene But it's alright I will get by I will get by I will get by I will survive It's a lesson to me The Deltas and the East and the Freeze The A B C's We all think of And try to keep a little love The shoe is on the hand it fits There's really nothing much to it Whistle through your teeth and spit 'Cause it's alright Oh well a touch of grey Kind of suits you anyway That was all I had to say And it's alright I will get by I will get by I will get by I will survive We will get by We will get by We will get by We will survive
This song is probably about getting older or more mature. I think the key phrases in the song are "I will get by" and "I will survive" which is absolutely how I treat many things in my life. Its like, yeah things aren't great but I will get by and I'll survive. I guess it just goes to show that drug use doesn't make you a bad person. The Dead were known for their drug use and they were almost always positive including in this song. I have heard that it was written after Jerry Garcia's recovery from a diabetic coma. And he was still positive after it all. But then there's the line "Every silver lining's got a touch of grey" and as we all know, the old saying about a "silver lining" is saying that there's always something positive. Yet in this song they say the lining has a touch of grey. I don't think there's much to that, though. I think it was meant more along the lines of how people see someone with hair begining to grey as rather wise and that 'touch of grey' as something very distinguishing. No matter what the song is about, I love it. Its just an amazing song that makes me feel great when I hear it. And as a bit of a side-note, Jerry Garcia started going grey in his 30's. I hope you all enjoyed this song and if you did, you've almost certainly never gotten high for superficial reasons. lol. Seriously, though, if you've ever thought negatively about LSD and marijuana (opiates and cocaine/crack and things in those categories not included) then you could learn a lot from The Grateful Dead. "Its Jerry Garcia in a pouch, man!" -Brian, "Half Baked" -=The Prynce

'Judith' by A Perfect Circle
|
'Judith' by A Perfect CircleYou're such an inspiration for the ways That I'll never ever choose to be Oh so many ways for me to show you How the savior has abandoned you Fuck your God Your Lord and your Christ He did this Took all you had and Left you this way Still you pray, you never stray Never taste of the fruit You never thought to question why It's not like you killed someone It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side Praise the one who left you Broken down and paralyzed He did it all for you He did it all for you Oh so many many ways for me to show you How your dogma has abandoned you Pray to your Christ, to your god Never taste of the fruit Never stray, never break Never---choke on a lie Even though he's the one who did this to you You never thought to question why Not like you killed someone It's Not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side Talk to Jesus Christ As if he knows the reasons why He did it all for you Did it all for you He did it all for you..
This song is far more powerful than it is given credit for. Whiney fucking wannabes and emo kids and skaters have turned this into something that's just anti-establishment when its more than that. Maynard James Keenan's mother was named Judith. She was a very religous person. She became paralyzed (from either a stroke or a car accident) and she still remained devout (and even moreso than before). MJK thought this was strange and this song is apparently an expression of those feelings. He's basically saying that she was faithful her whole life and all yet she was 'thanked' by being paralyzed. Overall, though, the song is about blind faith. If you're a member of ANY religion, you are prone to being blindly faithful. Say what philosophical things you will but it is true. Those who believe that their way is great but admit that there is no way they can say for sure it is the only way or the right way are not in this category in my mind (or at least they tend not to be). No matter who you are or what you believe or what you're a part of, question it. You may find that you were right all along but the least you can do is TRULY question it. Be objective. Some say this song could be about a relationship and I certainly see that. Esspecially a relationship that has either gone bad or has ended. Just for the record, I used to have a dog named Judith (named for this song) but she died of Parvo as a pup. She was a great pup, though. Interpret it for youself, though. This song wasn't meant to offend or anything, just to try my best to get a few things across. And by all means, read these lyrics a few times over. Don't just read the parts you think sound cool. Read 'em all. Close your mouth. Open your mind. -=The Prynce

'Paradise By the Dashboard Light" by Meat Loaf
|
'Paradise By the Dashboard Light' by Meat LoafBOY: Well, I remember every little thing as if it happened only yesterday Parkin' by the lake and there was not another car in sight And I never had a girl lookin' any better than you did And all the kids at school, they were wishin' they were me that night So now our bodies are held so close and tight It never felt so good, it never felt so right And we're glowin' like the metal on the edge of a knife Glowin' like the metal on the edge of a knife Come on, hold on tight Well, come on, hold on tight! CHOIR: Though it's cold and lonely in the deep, dark night I can see paradise by the dashboard light GIRL: Ain't no doubt about it, we were doubly blessed 'Cause we were barely seventeen and we were barely dressed ALL: Ain't no doubt about it, baby got to go and shout it Ain't no doubt about it, we were doubly blessed BOY: 'Cause we were barely seventeen and we were barely dressed BOY: Baby, don't you hear my heart? Two down, nobody on, no score, bottom of the ninth. There's the wind-up, and there it is! A line shot up the middle, look at him go! This boy can really fly! He's rounding first and really turning it on now. He's not letting up at all, he's gonna try for second! The ball is bobbled out in center. And here's the throw and what a throw! He's gonna slide in head first! Here he comes, he's out. No, wait, safe! Safe at second base! This kid really makes things happen out there. Batter steps up to the plate. Here's the pitch, and he's going! And what a jump he's got! Ge's trying for third! Here's the throw! And in the dirt, safe at third! Holy cow, stolen base! He's taking a pretty big lead out there, almost daring them to pick him off. The pitcher glances over, winds-up and it's bunted! Bunted down the third base line! The suicide squeeze is on! Here he comes, squeeze play, it's gonna be close! Here's the throw, here's the play at the plate...holy cow, I think he's gonna make it! GIRL: STOP RIGHT THERE! I gotta know right now! Before we go any further Do you love me? Will you love me forever? Do you need me? Will you never leave me? Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life? Will you take me away, will you make me your wife? Do you love me? Will you love me forever? Do you need me? Will you never leave me? Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life? Will you take me away, will you make me your wife? I gotta know right now! Before we go any further Do you love me? Will you love me forever? BOY: Let me sleep on it, baby baby, let me sleep on it Let me sleep on it, I'll give you an answer in the mornin' Let me sleep on it, baby baby, let me sleep on it Let me sleep on it, I'll give you an answer in the mornin' Let me sleep on it, baby baby, let me sleep on it Let me sleep on it, I'll give you an answer in the mornin' GIRL: I gotta know right now! Do you love me? Will you love me forever? Do you need me? Will you never leave me? Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life? Will you take me away, will you make me your wife? I gotta know right now! Before we go any further Do you love me? Will you love me forever? (spoken) What's it gonna be, boy? Come on! I can wait all night. What's it gonna be, boy, yes or no? What's it gonna be, boy, yes...or...no? BOY: Let me sleep on it, baby baby, let me sleep on it Let me sleep on it, I'll give you an answer in the mornin' GIRL: I gotta know right now! BOY: Let me sleep on it, baby baby, let me sleep on it Let me sleep on it, I'll give you an answer in the mornin' GIRL: (overlapping) I gotta know right now! Do you love me? Will you love me forever? Do you need me? Will you never leave me? Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life? Will you take me away, will you make me your wife? GIRL: (alone) I gotta know right now! Before we go any further Do you love me? Will you love me forever? BOY: Let me sleep on it! GIRL: Will you love me forever? BOY: Let me sleep on it! GIRL: Will you love me forever? BOY: I couldn't take it any longer, and LAWD I was crazed When the feelin' came upon me like a tidal wave Started swearin' to my god and on my mother's grave That I would love you 'til the end of time I swore I'd love you 'til the end of time So now I'm prayin' for the end of time To hurry up and arrive 'Cause if I have to spend another minute with you I don't think that I could really survive I'll never break my promise or forget my vow But God only knows what I can do right now! I'm prayin' for the end of time, it's all that I can do Prayin' for the end of time so I can end my time with you BOY: It was long ago and it was far away And it was so much better than it is today (repeats) GIRL: (overlapping) It never felt so good, It never felt so right And we were glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife (repeats)
I think its pretty clear that this song is about a young man trying to convince a young girl to have sex with him in a car. There aren't really any well hidden sub-texts here. The best part of the song for me is the ending when he swore he would love her until the end of time then he starts on the "So now I'm praying for the end of time..." verse. Its just funny. I dunno. Who hasn't swore that to someone and then wanted to take it back later? The song itself doesn't much describe my mood today or anything. Its just the slightly up-beat nature of it all and... I dunno. Go listen to the song. See how you feel? I've had a small sense of that feeling today for some reason that I'm not sure of. Anywho, come back tomorrow! -=The Prynce

'Someone Like You' by Rod Stewart
|
'Someone Like You' by Rod StewartIf I listened long enough to you I'd find a way to believe that it's all true Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried Still I look to find a reason to believe Someone like you makes it hard to live without Somebody else Someone like you makes it easy to give Never think about myself If I gave you time to change my mind I'd find a way just to leave the past behind Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried Still I look to find a reason to believe If I listened long enough to you I'd find a way to believe that it's all true Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried Still I look to find a reason to believe Someone like you makes it hard to live without Somebody else Someone like you makes it easy to give Never think about myself
I've been hearing this song a lot lately for some reason and its been on my mind. I decided to post it tonight because I think almost everyone has met someone like the person he's talking about. You meet someone who is the absolute greatest and then when you don't have them its hard to get by unless you have someone else to take your mind off of it. And no matter what they've done to you, you know you love them so much that you can begin to let it go. I think that there is a fine line between hard love and obsession and someone like that could be teetering on it. This is just simply a great song, though. Its very simple yet amazing. -=The Prynce

'Tom Sawyer' by Rush
|
'Tom Sawyer' by RushA modern-day warrior Mean mean stride, Today's Tom Sawyer Mean mean pride. Though his mind is not for rent, Don't put him down as arrogant. His reserve, a quiet defense, Riding out the day's events. The river And what you say about his company Is what you say about society. Catch the mist, catch the myth Catch the mystery, catch the drift. The world is, the world is, Love and life are deep, Maybe as his eyes are wide. Today's Tom Sawyer, He gets high on you, And the space he invades He gets by on you. No, his mind is not for rent To any God or government. Always hopeful, yet discontent, He knows changes aren't permanent, But change is. And what you say about his company Is what you say about society. Catch the witness, catch the wit, Catch the spirit, catch the spit. The world is, the world is, Love and life are deep, Maybe as his skies are wide. Exit the warrior, Today's Tom Sawyer, He gets high on you, And the energy you trade, He gets right on to the friction of the day.
I've loved this song forever and I'm pretty sure most of you have heard at least part of it even if you don't realize it. Its a great song about a man who pretty much stands alone-- a modern day Tom Sawyer. I'd like to think I'm like the guy in this song but that isn't for me to decide. I mean, I've never seen someone too much like me so I'm doubting I was made with a cookie-cutter. Anyone disagree? This song is rather simply about a person with a rebellious spirit who refuses to accept things from anyone (including 'God' and the government) without asking questions. So... yeah. Try to be a Tom Sawyer of today. -=The Prynce

'Walk' by Pantera
|
'Walk' by PanteraCan't you see, I'm easily bothered by persistance? One step from lashing out at you. You want in to get under my skin and call yourself a friend. I got more friends like you, what do I do? IS THERE NO STANDARD ANYMORE?! What it takes, who I am, where I been, belong. You can't something you're not. Be yourself, by yourself, stay away from me. A lesson learned in life, known from the dawn of time... Re-spect, Walk! What did you say? Re-spect, Walk! Are you talkin' to me? Are you talkin' to me?! Run your mouth when I'm not around, it's easy to achieve. You cry to weak friends that sympathize. Can't you hear the violins playing your song? Those same friends tell me your every word. Re-spect, Walk! What did you say? Re-spect, Walk! Are you talkin' to me? Are you talkin' to me?! NO WAY, PUNK! Re-spect, Walk! What did you say? Re-spect, Walk! Are you talkin' to me? Re-spect, Walk! What did you say? Re-spect, Walk! Are you talkin' to me? Are you talkin' to me?! Walk on home, boy...
I wanted something relevant to post tonight and I was drawing a blank. I was in a strange mood today and couldn't think of a song to fit it. I was happy because my two teams won their playoff games. But I was annoyed by a few people whom I really was getting fed up with. And as you all almost certainly know, I have a constant disliking for false or fake people. That's why I chose this song. Its about annoying people and 'posers' and having great disdain for them. I have pulled a line from this song to use many times on some key people when they'd come to me with their bullshit 'angst' and problems fitting in. "Be yourself BY yourself. Stay away from me." And there were many times I didn't use it that I should have or really wanted to. This also used to be Rob Van Dam's (RVD's) theme music at one time back in ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling). Anywho, read the lyrics. Odds are you either know people like that or you are one yourself. The later just may be the disappointing truth. R.I.P. Dimebag Darrell -=The Prynce

'The Way I Am' by Fozzy
|
'The Way I Am' by FozzyEverywhere I look I see disease Seems like the world was taken from me Time seems to be tick tick ticking away Forgive me for all, all the things I say Will you leave me there The way I am Interpretations of the day The way I am Deliverered from the gray Something makes me want to believe Nothing in life was given to me Cannot ever stick to this game Everyday, everything the same Time has a way and now I see What happened to all, all of my dreams Now and then I feel incomplete But I won't live my life in defeat
This song is be a band fronted by professional wrestler Chris Jericho (AKA: Chris Irvine, Mongoose McQueen). I think they're pretty underrated and its probably because of the novelty of a wrestler who is also the singer of a metal band. This song, I believe, is about being pretty much fed up with all of the things in the world that get you down or are in some way against you but not letting them keep you down. I like to think of myself like that. I have been through what I consider to be a lot in my life (much of which most people don't even know about- Not even those closest to me) and I continue to go through a lot and deal with pain and just really hard situations. But while these things get to me and I almost always see mostly nothing but horrible circumstances and things around me (many people have a life worse than mine. I'm not going to pretend to have the most horrific life or anything near that.) I won't let it take control over my life such as other people I know closely have and do. But that's what I think this song is about. I'd like to hear what some of you think. What do YOU think its about? I know I've got some readers so let me hear from you! Look for more Fozzy in the future... -=The Prynce

'Brain Damage' by Pink Floyd
|
'Brain Damage' by Pink FloydThe lunatic is on the grass. The lunatic is on the grass. Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs. Got to keep the loonies on the path. The lunatic is in the hall. The lunatics are in my hall. The paper holds their folded faces to the floor And everyday the paper boy brings more. And if the dam breaks open many years too soon And if there is no room upon the hill And if your head explodes with dark forbodings too I'll see you on the Dark Side of the Moon. The lunatic is in my head The lunatic is in my head You raise the blade, you make the change You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane You lock the door And throw away the key There's someone in my head but it's not me. And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear You shout and no one seems to hear. And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes I'll see you on the Dark Side of the Moon. (background vocals: "I can't think of anything to say except... I think it's marvelous! HaHaHa!")
I posted this song in honor of Syd Barrett's 60th birthday which was yesterday. The song is quite simply about losing your mind. Syd Barrett was the original lead singer of Pink Floyd but he went a little (or a lot) crazy and was institutionalized and they went on to become legends without him but you can still sense him in almost all of their music that came even after him. Their songs tended to be about sanity or insanity in some way. Some people think most of their songs are about drugs but I think they're actually about insanity. Barrett was rumored to be really big on using drugs such as LSD and probably ended up doing it a little too much. So in actuality, they may be largely about drugs vicariously. I don't really feel the need to go line-by-line or anything to explain how it is about insanity. I mean, look at the title! One noteable verse, though, is about lobotomies. Its the bit that includes the line "Take the blade. You make the change and rearrange me until I'm sane" I think its a sort of a sad song, really. Losing one's sanity is pretty depressing in my opinion. And I'm sure at least some of you are with me in knowing how it feels to think you're losing your mind. -=The Prynce

'Man on the Moon' by R.E.M.
|
'Man on the Moon' by R.E.M.Mott the Hoople and the game of Life. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Andy Kaufman in the wrestling match. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Monopoly, Twenty one, checkers, and chess. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Mister Fred Blassie in a breakfast mess. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's play Twister, let's play Risk. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. See you heaven if you make the list. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey, Andy did you hear about this one? Tell me, are you locked in the punch? Hey Andy are you goofing on Elvis? Hey, baby. Are we losing touch? If you believed they put a man on the moon, man on the moon. If you believe there's nothing up their sleeve, then nothing is cool. Moses went walking with the staff of wood. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Newton got beaned by the apple good. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Egypt was troubled by the horrible asp. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Mister Charles Darwin had the gall to ask. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey Andy did you hear about this one? Tell me, are you locked in the punch? Hey, Andy are you goofing on Elvis? Hey, baby. Are you having fun? If you believed they put a man on the moon, man on the moon. If you believe there's nothing up my sleeve, then nothing is cool. Here's a little agit for the never-believer. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Here's a little ghost for the offering. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Here's a truck stop instead of Saint Peter's. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Mister Andy Kaufman's gone wrestling [wrestling bears]. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey Andy did you hear about this one? Tell me, are you locked in the punch? Hey Andy are you goofing on Elvis, hey baby, are we losing touch? If you believed they put a man on the moon, man on the moon. If you believe there's nothing up my sleeve, then nothing is cool.
This is a song about Andy Kaufman. I just watched the movie about his life again tonight for the first time in a few years so he's on my mind. The guy was a genius. The chorus speaks of Elvis and Andy 'goofing' on him. Kaufman did Elvis impersonations before it was acceptable. This was when Elvis was still alive. And the part about putting a man on the moon is that some people think the moon landings were faked. Just as many people think Andy Kaufman faked his death as a bit of a practical joke. Also, Kaufman was sometimes called the man on the moon because he was pretty out there. And the bit that says "If you believe there's nothing up my sleeve then nothing is cool" is self-explanatory for a Kaufman fan. He would often trick people into thinking he was tricking them when he really wasn't, if that makes sense. Another thing you have to know about him is that he wrestled women just to make people hate him. He's a person that was probably willing to give up his career in order to make himself and a few of his friends laugh by pissing off 80% of America. If you don't know about Kaufman, read up on him. Or just watch the movie "Man on the Moon" about his life. Its a great film. If you're narrow-minded or up-tight, you will NOT understand him or why he did things like he did. But if you are, you'll love him and hope that all of the nuts are right and he is still alive, though if he isn't, he'd almost certainly love people wondering if he was or not. Look for more songs dealing with Kaufman in the future. "Great Beyond" is another good one from the movie. But that's all for now. Hope you've enjoyed. -=The Prynce

'Revolution Man' by The Union Underground
|
'Revolution Man' by The Union UndergroundOne more time and you'll be dead At least I think that's what they said Forty days won't break a man It was a bullet in his head There's something in the... Something in the way you were The pain so wrong my friend Revolution...revolution man Imagine all the people One more time and you'll be dead At least I think that's what they said Forty days won't break a man It was a bullet in his head Listen while I load my gun He said to me Something 'bout a chosen one It's comin' back to me Watch him while I taste the sun He said to me Something 'bout a chosen one You'll never be One last time your medicine Swallow hard and take it in Lucy's in the sky again Trippin' on her diamonds
If this song is not about John Lennon then I dunno what is! Apparently, The Union Underground are really big fans of his or at least of The Beatles. In this song alone, here are the allusions to The Beatles that I know of: "One more time and you'll be dead" could be a reference to warnings people give about drugs which Lennon did use. It was a bullet that killed Lennon and not the toils (of 'forty days') and actions in his life. 'Something' is a song by The Beatles, though George Harrison wrote and sang it (I think) and it contains the line "Something in the way". Many people consider Lennon a revolutionary. Not to mention one of his best known Beatle songs, 'Revolution' and then the creepy track 'Revolution 9' (9 is a number often associated with Lennon). "Imagine all the people" is a line from Lennon's song "Imagine" which is widely agreed to be one of the greatest songs ever. The bit about loading a gun could be about Lennon's killer. The 'chosen one' line could be, too, as he basically said he thought he had to kill Lennon for being a phony and he could have seen himself as chosen by God (he was another twisted religious freak) to kill Lennon. Or that line could be saying that Lennon was something better than just an earthly man. In short, it could be comparing him to Jesus. The part about Lucy is clearly nodding to the Beatles' song "Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds" which Lennon wrote about a painting his son made. That's all that I see for this song. If you know any other allusions, let me know via a comment on this post. One other connection with this band to Lennon is the song "Turn Me On Mister Deadman" which is sort of an obvious nod at the aforementioned "Revolution 9". When played backwards, it sounds as though someone is constantly saying "Turn me on dead man". Regardless, this song is GREAT as is the band. Check this track out as well as others. -=The Prynce

'Paranoid Android' by Radiohead
|
'Paranoid Android' by RadioheadPlease could you stop the noise, I'm trying to get some rest From all the unborn chicken voices in my head What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but not an android) What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but not an android) When I am king, you will be first against the wall With your opinion which is of no consequence at all What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but no android) What's that...? (I may be paranoid, but no android) Ambition makes you look pretty ugly Kicking and squealing gucci little piggy You don't remember You don't remember Why don't you remember my name? Off with his head, man Off with his head, man Why don't you remember my name? I guess he does.... Rain down, rain down Come on rain down on me From a great height From a great height... height... Rain down, rain down Come on rain down on me From a great height From a great height... height... Rain down, rain down Come on rain down on me That's it, sir You're leaving The crackle of pigskin The dust and the screaming The yuppies networking The panic, the vomit The panic, the vomit God loves his children, God loves his children, yeah!
This song could potentially piss off Christians (and maybe other religions, too) and/or 'scene kids' (as Matt would put it). Its a song about God and as the writer Thom Yorke put it, "Chaos. Utter fucking chaos." Some people also take it to be about people who follow the crowd. And it doesn't matter if you're following the big crowd or one made up of just a few people, you need to think for yourself. I find it odd, you know... Most of the people who will be first to claim they would never follow the crowd are the ones who do it only they don't do it on such a large scale. Honestly, I see how each of those could be right. Yorke said the first was so that's clearly what it was written about, but that same sort of 'follow the leader blindly' mentality also applies to those who do just that on smaller levels as well as religion. And of course, some people think its about Marvin the Paranoid Android from Douglas Adams' books in the 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' series. I could sort of see that. Either way, I think it likely that that is where the name came from. But then again, why would you listen to me? Read the lyrics and see what YOU think its about. -=The Prynce

'In My Life' by The Beatles
|
'In My Life'by The BeatlesThere are places I remember All my life though some have changed Some forever not for better Some have gone and some remain All these places have their moments With lovers and friends I still can recall Some are dead and some are living In my life I've loved them all But of all these friends and lovers There is no one compares with you And these memories lose their meaning When I think of love as something new Though I know I'll never lose affection For people and things that went before I know I'll often stop and think about them In my life I love you more Though I know I'll never lose affection For people and things that went before I know I'll often stop and think about them In my life I love you more In my life I love you more
This song is great and very sweet, I think. As I'm sure you can tell, it is about someone's life and how they feel about the person after all things have been done. Probably one of the greatest Beatle songs ever, though it never has got much fame. -=The Prynce

'Jet Black New Year' by Thursday
|
'Jet Black New Year' by ThursdayDon't even take a breath The air is cut with cyanide In honor of the New Year The press gives us cause to celebrate: These air raid sirens Flood barbed wire skylines By artificial night, As we sleep to burn the red From our bloodless lives. Tonight we're all time bombs on fault lines. Have we lost everything now? We're walking like each other's ghosts Around these silent streets (the sedatives tell you everything is alright) Like calendars dying at New Year's Eve parties As we kiss hard on the lips and swear this year will be better than the last Jet Black - the ink that spells your name Jet Black - the blood that's in your veins Jet Black - we say, "How long can we take this chance not to celebrate?" There's music playing But we dance to the beat Of our own black hearts And draw diagrams Of suicide on each other's wrists Then trace them with razorblades Fire to flames "Strike Match." Burn these words from our lips As 'The Daggar' screams "Love is dead" and it's a "newspaper tragedy," Have we lost what we love? Have we said everything? Does it change anything? Stare at the clock Avoid at all costs, This emptiness. Have we lost everything now? We're walking like each other's ghosts Around these silent streets (the sedatives tell you everything is alright) Like calendars dying at New Year's Eve parties As we kiss hard on the lips and swear this year will be better then the last Have we lost everything now? We're walking like each other's ghosts Around these silent streets (the sedatives tell you everything is alright) Like calendars dying at New Year's Eve parties As we kiss hard on the lips and swear this year this year Ten seconds left until midnight nine chances to drown ourselves in black hair dye eight faces turned away from the shock: seven windows and six of them were locked five stories falling forever and ever three cheers to the mirror now there are two of us can we have one last dance? Jet Black - the ink that spells your name Jet Black - the blood that's in your veins Jet Black - we say, "How long can we take this chance not to celebrate?" Jet Black - the ink that spells your name Jet Black - the blood that's in your veins Jet Black - we say, "How long can we take this chance not to celebrate life?"
I thought this fitting for my first post since it is on New Year's Day. Its a great song. Pretty sad in reality, though. This is what the song is probably about. Its a story from the linear note from the CD: "When the crowd parted for the paramedics, we already knew it wasn't necessary. The street was painted a purple-red with that boy's blood. On impact, his body had folded on itself; he looked like he was praying to the mailbox. The air was turning the blood on the sidewalk rust brown, but in his hair it stayed a dark red. It seemed to get redder with every flash of the newspaperman's camera. I took the train back to New Jersey where my girlfriend and I were going to a New Year's Eve party. "I'm having the worst day, what a way to end the year," she shouted in my ear as the faces flashed by in the strobe light and the floorboards shook with music. "I lost my purse and someone spilled red wine all over me." The sight of the wine in the dark made my mouth water and every pulse of the strobe was the eye of the photographer's camera. "At least I've got you," she winked. I bit down on my lip and the afternoon flooded into my blood like an IV drip: the crowd's bland faces; reporters searching for the parents; the steam drifting from the young boy's broken mouth; the pair of sneakers tangled in the power lines hanging like a forgotten mistletoe. "Hey, where are you?" She pleaded. But I was right there. The blood was soaking into my untied shoelace as we watched the ambulance pull up. I was right there: The calm voices of the paramedics made the temperature drop twenty degrees. I was right there: They zipped up the black bag and I couldn't breathe. "You better not be in another one of your moods. Not tonight." I tried to listen, but I couldn't resist the pull of the breathing open window. I saw myself running to it and lunging straight through it. I felt like I was suffocating in a zipped-up black bag. "I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to deal with you ignoring me this year. That's my resolution! Good bye." I had to lock myself in the bathroom to stop myself from jumping out the window. In the mirror, my dirty blond hair was tinged red. I tried closing my eyes but when I looked in the mirror my hair was saturated, a thick crimson. The New Year cheers sounded like screams through the door and I swore that I'd never let myself care about anything else ever again. The next morning the paper said that a boy had falled out of an unlocked window in his parent's apartment in New York. I dyed my hair the darkest black I could find. A black so dark it could cover the deepest blood red and suffocate the brighest halo."-from linear notes of 'Five Stories Falling' by Thursday Hope you all have had a better New Year than the one in that story. Check back tomorrow for another song from my life's soundtrack. -=The Prynce
