'Fortunate Son' by Creedence Clearwater Revival
'Fortunate Son'
by Creedence Clearwater Revival

Some folks are born made to wave the flag,
Ooh, they're red, white and blue.
And when the band plays "Hail to the chief",
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord,

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son.
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no,

Yeah!
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand,
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh.
But when the taxman comes to the door,
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes,

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no.
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no.

Some folks inherit star spangled eyes,
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord,
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer More! more! more! yoh,

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no military son, son.
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, one.

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no no no,
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate son, no no no.

I love this song for a few reasons. One of them is them is to hear ignorant pseudo-patriots sing it like it is a patriotic song.
Many of you likely think it to be patriotic but it isn't. Far from it.

This song speaks against the Vietnam war and the way that certain more fortunate people (IE; a senator's son) could get out of the draft while people that were poor were forced to fight and die.
In a way, it is all the same now. Mostly poor people are in the military so that they won't be unemployed and can at least have some chance of a future or of going to college some day if they are able to survive.

People in power only care about getting the small amounts of money that the poor have. Of course, that is an unfair generalization, but it is often the case.

That's one reason I love Mohammed Ali. He refused to go when drafted though he knew he almost certainly wouldn't have to actually have to fight or be in danger.

But I do love this song and its great to mind-fuck the ignorant with it.
